Morocco, land of wonders

Presentation of the country

Morocco is a country located in the far northwest of Africa, bordered by the Atlantic Ocean to the west and the Mediterranean Sea to the north. Directly across from Europe, from which it is separated only by the 14 km Strait of Gibraltar, Morocco shares land borders with Algeria to the east and Mauritania to the south. Its area is approximately 710,850 km².

The country's political capital is Rabat, while Casablanca is the largest city and main economic center. Morocco has a population of approximately 37 million (2024 estimate), divided between major cities, rural areas, and mountainous regions.

The country is a constitutional monarchy ruled by King Mohammed VI since 1999. The official language is Arabic, with Berber (Amazigh) also recognized as an official language. French is widely used in business and administration.

The main religion is Islam, predominantly Sunni of the Maliki rite. The local currency is the Moroccan dirham (MAD).

Morocco has a varied climate, ranging from Mediterranean in the north to desert in the south, with mountainous areas in the Atlas and Rif mountains. Its economy is based on agriculture, tourism, industry, and phosphates, of which it is one of the world's leading exporters.

Famous for its imperial cities (Marrakesh, Fez, Meknes, and Rabat), its diverse landscapes, and its hospitality, Morocco is a popular destination for tourists from around the world.
